A Few Pet Safety Tips for the Hot Months!

Pets always need our care and attention but during the hot months of the year there are a few things that require a little more attention than usual for the safety of our pets. Here are a few things that will make our pets safer and happier during those times.

  • Keep your pets free of parasites like fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and other parasites.
  • Pets hair can be trimmed during the hot months but do not shave them, they can get sunburned also.
  • Never leave pets alone in a parked vehicle.
  • Pets can get dehydrated very quickly when it is hot and humid. Make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water.
  • The symptoms of overheating are panting heavily, difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, thick drooling and weakness.
  • Do not over exercise and it is always best to take walks in the cooler part of the day.
  • Do not leave pets alone at the pool and they should always be rinsed off after being in a pool with chemicals or in salt water.
  • Whenever possible keep your pet in the shade and remember that if it is hot outside the pavement and sidewalks are hot and can burn the paws of your pets feet.
